Greetings Dear Readers,
Welcome back readers, and do we have some stuff to discuss! The
banter and flirtatious energy between Adolin, Kaldain and Shallan is
undeniable. Knowing Brandon Sanderson it is unlikely he incorporates a
three-way relationship into his novels let alone any romance at all, however,
he is definitely writing these three characters in a very specific way, if you
know what I mean (*wink* *wink*).
Shallan has finally restarted her research and is trying to find
the secrets of Urithiru and its hidden location. She sets this plan out by
trying to locate Urithiru or an Oathgate (a gate that is somehow connected to
Urithiru) in the Shattered Plains. She does this by using her Lightweaving and
Patterns new lockpicking abilities to spy on Amaram's estate. There she finds a
detailed map of the Shattered Plains. Personally I am really starting to love
Shallan’s character, she encompasses so many different aspects of this fantasy
world. She is of privilege class by birth, she experiences life of the
oppressed through her illusions, she is one of the fated and Noble Knights
Radiants as well as a part of a secret organization known as the Ghostbloods.
I’m very excited to see how she develops and how she maintains this secrecy
from others, especially Adolin.
Adolin sets up one of the main conflicts in the novel. His rivalry
with Sadeas, due to Sadeas’ previous betrayal, escalates drastically. Also his
new duel’s wager is insane! The bet is if Adolin wins he possesses the loser’s
Blades, while if the opponent wins they victor all of Adolin and his family’s
Blades. The tension is definitely rising as this duel is set to take place in
only a week. Adolin also attends a meeting where Dalinar reveals his plan for
one final full blown siege against the Parshendi. In my opinion Adolin will not deal with Sadeas in any way other than these small interactions that emphasize
their conflict, therefore Dalinar will be Sadeas’ true rival and probably
successor. This final siege will definitely be the apex of the story and main
climax of the novel. This will however most likely take place at the end of the
book. And now to introduce one of the best fight scenes ever: The Duel.
During the duel we figure out that there was a major loophole:
Adolin did not specify how many opponents he has to fight, and in a plot twist
we suddenly face ourselves with a three against one battle. And with one of the
best, chill-inducing lines: “Honor is dead”, Kaladin jumps into the fight
alongside Adolin. Honestly this is one of the best fight scenes ever written
that I’ve read so far. It is simply amazing. The descriptions of the fluidity
and different fighting styles portrayed in each character is breathtaking. With
the combined skill of Adolin and Kaladin they win the fight. Kaladin announces
his duel against Amaram to extract his personal revenge, betrays the king, and
ends up in jail. Fitting.
Honestly that's how Part 3 ends. And so with nothing left to say I
conclude with this very brief sentence: I am more hooked than I thought
possible. With that goodbye dearest readers.
